Default SMS Alerts for new orders?

Is this something you would be interested in? - If so please let us know.

Obviously you need a mobile phone and there would be a cost attached to each alert (in the order of a few pence).

Possibly.

At the moment i use the RSS feed and an iPhone app so i get alerts when i get a new order, along with emails on the phone so i have all the details.

The iPhone RSS app is a little flakey though if i'm honest, it didnt alert me for an order i took on friday and i've only just realised as you've mentioned this.

Maybe some kind of Push alert would be better?

Emails it is for now.

In the update there is a new inline javascript alert in the header that polls for new orders every x seconds - this pops a visual alert to the administrator when a new order arrives.

Few other things that have changed on the dev version:

1. Search now uses newer Mysql functions to provide more relevant results - still fairly simplistic but better IMO than the current release - please try it out.

2. PCA is now easily on and offable with ability to enable/disable and enter PCA key in store control panel

3. Paypal EC is easily on and offable too

4. Non price affecting dropdowns are better now: http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/produc...raphy_diana_f/ (no more tables + improved basket behaviour)

5. Footer Copyright is now inside html. You no longer close your defaultfooter file.

6. No more grid 2/3/4/5 - just grid / list/ list with thumb (div layouts auto adjust)

7. Order notes now on email receipts

8. Numerous other minor items....

New installer for beta release is actually being written now. Wooo.

That's exciting news.

re: product grids

check this page
http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/sections/4/accessories/
with
http://validator.w3.org/

Out-of-the-box it'd be a reasonable aim to make your software output valid html/xhtml. Will display more uniformly cross broswer/device and gives store owners a 'clean slate' to start from.

some points:
1. id tags are repeated (they ought to be unique)
2. wrapping block elements (div tags, h4 tags) with <a> is not valid
3. the td's, and tables in general, aren't valid xhtml
4. <meta name="author" value="storesprite.com" /> should be
<meta name="author" content="storesprite.com" />

here is an example of the code for each product on category pages:

Code:
<td valign="top">
		<div class="viewproduct-holder-grid">
			<a href="http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/products/5/51/diana_f_lens_adaptor_-_canon_mount/">
				<div class="viewproduct-thumb-image" style="background: url(http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/productimages/thumb/nothumbimage.png) no-repeat;background-position: center center;">

					<div class="viewproduct-info"> BUY / MORE INFO &raquo;  </div>

				</div>

			</a>
			<div class="viewproduct-price-grid"><input type="hidden" name="pre_xo_id" value="55" />
 <b>RRP:</b> &pound;<span class="strikeprice">11.00</span> <b>Our Price:</b> &pound;9.00 </div>

			<div class="viewproduct-name"><a href="http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/products/5/51/diana_f_lens_adaptor_-_canon_mount/">Diana F+ Lens Adaptor - Canon Mount</a></div>

		</div>

 </td>
I'd use a regular img tag for the image. When possible, you want to avoid using inline css. It's slow to render, especially so if it includes lots of background images (and isn't cascading).

If this design is going to be the default for installations, consider, on the homepage for example, changing prices to a non-bold, black, or something else on the gray-scale, font. Currently the prices are difficult to read and their color competes with the buy button.

Couldn't agree more and it is an aim of this release to remove all the deprecated items - though it looks like we might have overlooked one or two - the td's should absolutely not be in there. I appreciate that there are a couple of items that still need looking at - for example in this release you will notice that we have both horizontal and vertical menus (to serve as an example that it is possible). Most people will remove the duplicated element, although we will replace with classes. Also we do have some CSS3 elements that won't validate at the moment (frustrating).

Don't fear out of the box it will be as squeaky as we can get it.

Also note that the js files and css files have not yet had their final strip down and cleanse.

Please could you take a look over now. CSS and xhtml should validate across the shopfront*.

* If using firefox html tidy plugin there are a couple of warnings for empty spans (which are valid at w3).

Entirely possible I could have missed something so please tell us if there is anything that does not validate for you.

Ta!

Storesprite, looks very good.

after a quick look i found just very minor suggestions and just 2-3 xhtml errors. will take another look tomorrow.

http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/sectio...diana_cameras/
gave a 404 error. consider adding a 404 error (error-404.php) page built from the header/footer templates and which says some standard page not found message.

add this to the htaccess file:
ErrorDocument 404 error-404.php

other feedback
homepage
Code:
		<span class="featured-price"><input type="hidden" name="pre_xo_id" value="60" />
 <b>RRP:</b> &pound;<span class="strikeprice">6.00</span> <b>Our Price:</b> &pound;5.00</span>
there's no easy way to give these two their own formatting:
RRP/Our Price.

consider giving each it's own class.

also, they should be on seperate lines. currently reads
RRP: £55.00 Our
Price: £48.00

viewproducts.php

Code:
<div class="featured-name"><h3><a href="http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/products/4/66/lc-a_keychain/">LC-A+ Keychain</a></h3></div>
no need to wrap the block element h3 inside another block element.

Code:
<div class="viewproduct-thumb-image">
					<a href="http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/products/4/63/lomo_london_notebook/"><img src="http://ssdev.lampdesign.co.uk/productimages/thumb/nothumbimage.png" alt="Lomo London Notebook" class="thumb-image" /></a>
		</div>
are both classnames, viewproduct-thumb-image and thumb-image, necessary?

displayproduct.php
use - and not _. The underscore is difficult to read/see: displayproduct-desc, intro_copy

cart (you can copy and paste source directly into validator.w3.org)
<select name="selptid" onChange="do_postage()"> -
there is no attribute "onChange"

Custom 404 added, though if that is a real broken link you have found - can you please point me to the page containing the link!

These are variables held in /private/shop_messages.php so you do have access to wrap them in whatever you like. However this has been noted and I have wrapped them in this release. Separate lines are a matter of preference and attainable via editing /private/shop_messages.php.

There are certainly a couple of places where the css could be shrunk a little, however some parts deliberately have separate code to allow people to apply separate classes without having to think too hard (though you are able to completely replace our xhtml/css with yours). The featured item part you mention has been addressed though as it really served no purpose.

The thumb image css is in part due to the new sale labels which require positioning and z-indexing. Though there is probably a way to amalgamate these two classes - it escapes me at the moment.

Not sure where you are referring to? All the css id and classes use - ?

I had already blatted that somewhere else - it's simply capitalization. Changed to lowercase c and that should be ok!

Thank you for taking the time to look over the code - it is much appreciated!

No, the 404 error was me test and not an actual (bad) link.

There was either a classname or id with an underscore: intro_copy

re: css background product images

if the block which contained the product image also contained the sale image:

Code:
<div class="product-wrapper">
  <img productimage/>
  <img saleimage />
</div>
if .product-wrapper had positioning defined you can position the 'sale' image relative to it and also, i guess, use z-index. (not positive, haven't used z-index in a long time)
